### How to multiply numbers in scientific notation?

There are two sets of multiplying numbers in scientific notation worksheets.

• Multiply numbers in scientific notation (positive exponents).
• Multiply numbers in scientific notation (include negative exponents)

These are the steps to multiply numbers in scientific notation:

1. Multiply the coefficients of the numbers.
2. Add the exponents of the numbers.
3. Adjust the result to scientific notation if needed.

Example: (4.5 x 103) × (2.3 x 102)

1. Multiply the coefficients: 4.5 × 2.3 = 10.35
2. Add the exponents: 103 × 102 = 10(3+2) = 105
3. Adjust to scientific notation if needed: 10.35 × 105 = 1.035 × 106

Example: (2.1 x 10-4) × (3.5 x 102)

1. Multiply the coefficients: 2.1 × 7 = 14.7
2. Add the exponents: 1004 × 102 = 10(-4+2) = 10-2
3. Adjust to scientific notation if needed: 14.7 × 10-2 = 1.47 × 10-1
