Make 10 Strategy Addition Worksheets

The “Make 10” strategy is a valuable approach for mental math, especially when one of the addends is 7, 8, or 9. The idea is to recognize that these numbers are close to 10, and you can adjust the other addend to create a sum of 10. Here are examples for each:

1. Make 10 with One Addend as 7:
   If one addend is 7, recognize that it is 3 away from 10. Subtract 3 from the other addend and then add 10.
   Example:
   7 + 5 = 10 + 2 = 12
2. Make 10 with One Addend as 8:
   If one addend is 8, recognize that it is 2 away from 10. Subtract 2 from the other addend and then add 10.
   Example:
   8 + 5 = 10 + 3 = 13
3. Make 10 with One Addend as 9:
   If one addend is 9, recognize that it is 1 away from 10. Subtract 1 from the other addend and then add 10.
   Example:
   9 + 6 = 10 + 5 = 15

Visualization:
