This Integer PEMDAS Game/Worksheet, Integer Version, is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
PEMDAS (Steps) Quiz/Game-Integers
Welcome to Integer PEMDAS. This version introduces negative bases for exponents, negative terms in nested brackets, and mixed operations that can result in negative values.
This game is designed to help you internalize the Order of Operations (PEMDAS) by forcing you to solve equations one logical layer at a time. Instead of just jumping to the final answer, you must prove you know what happens first. You need to rewrite the expression for each step of the calculation. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
Check out the following Order of Operations Games/Quizzes for the complete PEMDAS series.
How to play the PEMDAS (Steps) Game
Follow the Hierarchy (PEMDAS)
You must solve parts of the equation in this specific order:
Parentheses: Solve everything inside brackets first.
Exponents: Solve powers (like 3^2).
Multiplication & Division: Solve these from left to right.
Addition & Subtraction: Solve these from left to right.
Step-by-Step
Instead of calculating everything in your head, you type the entire next version of the equation.
Example Problem:
10 + (-2) × 3
Identify the priority: Multiplication ((-2) × 3) comes before addition.
Type the next step: You would type 10 + (-6) and press Enter.
Finish it off: The game shows 10 + (-6) =. You then type the final answer:
Level Breakdown
Power Play (Exponents)
This mode tests your knowledge of negative bases.
Odd Powers: (-2)^3 = -8 (Negative)
Even Powers: (-2)^2 = 4 (Positive)
Nested Challenge
These problems have “brackets within brackets."
You must find the innermost set of parentheses, solve that first, and then work your way out.
Mixed Mode
A random rotation of all the above. This is where you build your highest streak.
How to Input
Exponents: Use the ^ symbol (e.g., type -3^2).
Spaces: Don’t worry about spaces. The game accepts 5+(-2) or 5 + ( -2 ).
Streak: Every correct step builds your streak. One mistake in the order or a sign error resets it to 0.
