Educational Summary
“Percentage & Proportion Word Problems with Fractions” is a middle-school level interactive learning module designed to reinforce contextual mathematical reasoning. Rather than practicing isolated procedural calculations (e.g., “Find 20% of 80”), students apply proportional reasoning and fraction operations to real-world scenarios such as:

Calculating sales discounts, tax, and original prices.
Solving part-to-whole and fraction-of-a-set problems.
Scaling recipes and unit rates using direct proportion.
Finding percentage increases, decreases, and error rates.

Key Learning Objectives (aligned with CCSS Math Standards):
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.RP.A.3: Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.RP.A.3: Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems (e.g., discounts, interest, taxes, percentage increase/decrease).
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.NS.A.3: Solve real-world mathematical problems involving the four operations with rational numbers (fractions and decimals).

Teachers’ Guide & Classroom Integration
Target Audience:
Grades: 6th Grade, 7th Grade, and 8th Grade Remediation.
Subjects: General Mathematics, Pre-Algebra, Financial Literacy Basics.

How to Use in the Classroom:

  1. Warm-Up / Bell Ringer (10 Minutes):
Have students launch a quick 10-question round individually or in pairs at the start of class to activate prior knowledge before a lesson on ratios and percentages.
  2. Differentiated Small-Group Instruction / Math Centers:
Station the game on iPads, Chromebooks, or laptops.
When students answer incorrectly, instruct them to copy the step-by-step solution box into their math journals before clicking “Next Question”.
  3. Whole-Class Guided Practice / Interactive Whiteboard:
Project the game on a Smartboard. Have the class vote on the answer. Read through the step-by-step solution together to highlight multiple solution strategies (e.g., converting percentages to fractions vs. decimals).
  4. Assessment & Reflection Questions:
Ask students to capture a screenshot of their final Results Screen showing their score and score percentage for quick formative assessment submission.

Pedagogical Tips for Educators:

  1. Encourage Scratch Paper: Advise students to keep scratch paper and a pencil handy. While questions are multiple-choice, encourage performing written calculations before selecting an answer.
  2. Focus on Key Vocabulary: Remind students to look for math keywords in the word problems (e.g., “of” usually means multiplication; “out of” signifies a ratio/fraction; “off” indicates subtraction after finding a percent discount).
