Factor Finder Game
A factor is a whole number that divides another number evenly, with no remainder. Think of them as the building blocks of a number through multiplication. For example, the factors of 10 are 1, 2, 5, and 10 because you can multiply them together to get 10 (1×10=10 and 2×5=10).

To find the factors of a number, systematically test integers starting from 1 to see if they divide the number evenly, creating pairs of factors. Scroll down the page if you need a more detailed explanation.

This Factor Finder Game allows you to enter the upper bound of the number to customize the difficulty of the game.

How to find the factors of a number
Find Factors of a Number Lesson

  1. Start with 1: The number 1 and the number itself are always a factor pair. Write them down.
  2. Test whole numbers: Starting with 2, test each whole number to see if it divides your original number evenly.
  3. Find the pairs: If a number divides your original number evenly, both the number you’re testing and the result of the division are factors. Write them down as a pair.
  4. Stop when they repeat: Continue this process until the numbers you are testing start repeating the factors you have already found. When you get to a number you’ve already listed as a factor, you know you’ve found all the pairs.

Example: Finding the factors of 30
Let’s find all the factors of the number 30.
Start with 1: The first pair is 1 and 30 (1×30=30).
Test 2: 30÷2=15. So, 2 and 15 are a factor pair.
Test 3: 30÷3=10. So, 3 and 10 are a factor pair.
Test 4: 30÷4 is not an even division (it has a remainder), so 4 is not a factor.
Test 5: 30÷5=6. So, 5 and 6 are a factor pair.
Test 6: You have already found 6 in the previous step, which means you have found all the factors. You can stop here.
The factors of 30, listed in order, are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, and 30.
Using this method of finding factor pairs is a great way to make sure you don’t miss any.

The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to walk through the process of finding the factor of a number.
