How to divide a decimal by a decimal?

Step 1: Align the decimals.
Write the dividend (the number being divided) and the divisor (the number doing the division) as if they were whole numbers.
Align the decimal points vertically.
Step 2: Move the decimal.
If the divisor is not a whole number, move the decimal point to the right until it becomes a whole number.
Move the decimal point in the dividend the same number of places to the right as you moved the decimal point in the divisor.
Step 3: Divide as usual.
Divide the adjusted dividend by the adjusted divisor as you would with whole numbers.
Perform the division operation and write down the quotient.
Step 4: Place the decimal point.
Count the total number of decimal places in both the dividend and the divisor (including the ones you moved).
Place the decimal point in the quotient above the line, directly above the decimal point in the dividend.
The number of decimal places in the quotient should match the difference between the total decimal places in the dividend and divisor.
Step 5: Simplify the result (if needed).
You may round the decimal to a desired number of decimal places.
