How to divide a decimal by a decimal?

  1. Move the decimal point in the divisor (the number you’re dividing by) to the right until it becomes a whole number.
  2. Move the decimal point in the dividend (the number being divided) the same number of places. If you run out of digits in the dividend, add zeros to the end as placeholders.
  3. Divide as usual.
  4. Place the decimal point in your answer (the quotient) directly above the new decimal point in the dividend.
  5. Simplify the result (if needed). You may round the decimal to a desired number of decimal places.
