How to convert mixed numbers to decimals?

You can follow these steps to convert mixed numbers with denominators of 10 or 100 to decimals:

  1. The whole part of the mixed number remains the same.
    Example: 3 5/10 = 3.
  2. For the fractional part, you need to divide the numerator by the denominator. If the denominators are 10, 100, or 1000, we can use the following shortcut otherwise you can use one of the methods shown in the above links.
    a) If the denominator is 10, move the decimal point one place to the right.
    Example: 3 5/10 = 3.5
    b) If the denominator is 100, move the decimal point two places to the right.
    Example: 2 75/100 = 2.75
In general, we move the decimal point of the numerator the same number of places to the right as the number of zeros in the denominator.
