Coin to Dollar Game
This Coin to Dollar Game is a great way to learn how to convert coins into dollars and cents. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.
How to Play the Coin to Dollar Game
Step 1: Set Up Your Game
On the start screen, you see four types of coins. Click the coins you want to practice with.
Pennies & Nickels: Easy mode—good for small totals.
Dimes & Quarters: Hard mode—adds up to bigger totals much faster.
Step 2: Solve the Problem
Once you hit Start Converting, a list of coins will appear in the dashed box (e.g., “5 quarters, 2 dimes”).
Step 3: Enter Your Answer Correctly
This is the most important part.
You have two boxes to fill in:
The Dollar Box: Enter the dollars here (the number to the left of the decimal).
The Cents Box: Enter the remaining cents here (the two numbers to the right).
The Zero Rule:
If your cents are less than 10, you must add a “0” in front.
5 cents is written as .05
1 dollar and 5 cents = 1.05
Step 4: Check and Level Up
The Score: Your score is shown as Correct/Attempted. If you get one wrong, the “Attempted” number goes up, but your “Correct” number stays the same. Try to get a perfect score.

Example:
Step 1: The Problem
Imagine the game gives you this set of coins:
“4 quarters, 3 nickels, 6 pennies”
Step 2: The Math
To solve this, you break it down coin by coin:
Quarters: 4 × 25¢ = 100¢
Nickels: 3 × 5¢ = 15¢
Pennies: 6 × 1¢ = 6¢
Now, add those totals together:
100 + 15 + 6 = 121¢
Step 3: The Conversion
Since 100 cents equals 1 dollar, you split your total:
The 1 (hundreds place) becomes your Dollars.
The 21 (remaining cents) becomes your Cents.
Step 4: Entering the Answer
In the game UI, you will see two boxes separated by a dot. You would fill them out like this:
Left box ($): 1
Right box (¢): 21
A “Tricky” Example
If the game gives you “2 quarters and 4 pennies”:
Total is 50 + 4 = 54¢.
There are 0 dollars.
The cents are 54.
Entry: $0.54
Note: If you had only 8 cents, you must enter it as 08 in the cents box.
The game looks for two digits in the cents place.
