Examples, solutions, videos, and worksheets to help Grade 7 and Grade 8 students learn how to add & subtract radical expressions worksheets.

There are three sets of adding & subtracting radical expressions worksheets.

- 1-step Radical expressions worksheets (Add/Subtract)
- 2-step Radical expressions worksheets (Simplify, Add/Subtract)
- Multi-step Radical expressions worksheets (Simplify, Add/Subtract)

To add or subtract radical expressions, follow these steps:

- Simplify Radicals: First, simplify the radicals in each expression as much as possible. Simplify by factoring out perfect squares from the radicand.
- Identify Like Radicals: Check if the radicals have the same index (root) and the same radicand (expression under the radical sign). If they do, they are like radicals and can be combined.
- Add or Subtract the Coefficients: For like radicals, add or subtract the coefficients (numbers outside the radical) while keeping the radical part unchanged.
- Simplify: If possible, simplify the resulting expression further.

Keep in mind that you can only add or subtract radicals if they have the same index and the same radicand. If they don’t, the expressions cannot be combined directly, and you would leave them as separate terms.
