This Trig: Missing Sides Game is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Trig: Missing Sides Game
To find missing sides in a right-angled triangle using trigonometry, you must use the given acute angle and the known side length to select the correct trigonometric ratio (SOHCAHTOA) and then solve the resulting equation. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
This game requires you either to find the missing sides in a right triangle given the acute angle and a known side length. There are two difficulty modes: “Unknown Numerator” and “Unknown Denominator”. If you give a wrong answer, the game will provide the correct answer.

How to Play the Missing Side Game
In this game, you need to practice finding missing side lengths using trigonometry..
Here’s how to play:
Find Missing Side
To find missing sides in a right-angled triangle using trigonometry, you must use the given acute angle and the known side length to select the correct trigonometric ratio (SOHCAHTOA) and then solve the resulting equation.
1. Label the Sides
Identify and label the three sides of the right triangle relative to the given acute angle (θ):
Hypotenuse (H): The side opposite the right angle (always the longest side).
Opposite (O): The side directly across from the angle θ.
Adjacent (A): The side next to the angle θ that is not the hypotenuse.
2. Choose the Correct Ratio (SOHCAHTOA)
Determine which of the three ratios to use by comparing the side you know (its length is given) and the side you want to find (the unknown, usually labeled with a variable like x).
If the sides involved Opposite and Hypotenuse then use Sine (sin). Use the formula \(\sin(\theta) = \frac{O}{H}\) and mnemonics SOH.
If the sides involved Adjacent and Hypotenuse then use Cosine (cos). Use the formula \(\cos(\theta) = \frac{A}{H}\) and mnemonics CAH.
If the sides involved Opposite and Adjacent then use Tangent (tan). Use the formula \(\tan(\theta) = \frac{O}{A}\) and mnemonics TOA.
3. Set Up and Solve the Equation
The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to learn how to find missing sides using trigonometry.
