How to perform time conversion
The Key Conversion Factors
These are the constants that define the relationship between each unit:
Seconds (S) ↔ Minutes (M): 60
Minutes (M) ↔ Hours (H): 60
Hours (H) ↔ Days (D): 24
Days (D) ↔ Weeks (W): 7

The Rules for Converting

  1. Larger Unit to Smaller Unit (Use Multiplication)
When you move from a larger unit (like Hours) to a smaller unit (like Minutes), the number will get bigger, so you must multiply.
    Hours→Minutes:Hours×60
Example: How many minutes are in 3 hours?
    3×60=180 minutes
  2. Smaller Unit to Larger Unit (Use Division)
When you move from a smaller unit (like Days) to a larger unit (like Weeks), the number will get smaller, so you must divide.
    Days→Weeks:Days÷7
Example: How many weeks are in 35 days?
    35÷7=5 weeks

Multi-Step Conversions
For conversions that skip a unit (e.g., Hours to Seconds or Weeks to Hours), you must multiply or divide by all the conversion factors in between.

Conversion Calculation (Larger to Smaller) Multiplier
Hours → Seconds 60×60 3,600
Days → Minutes 24×60 1,440
Weeks → Hours 7×24 168
