Teen Numbers Game
Teen numbers are the numbers from 11 to 19. The most important thing to know about teen numbers is that they are all made up of one group of ten and some extra ones. This is a key concept in understanding place value and two-digit numbers. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
 
In this game, you will be given a equation either in the form “10 + 7 = __” or “10 + __ = 18”. You need to fill in the blanks to complete the equation. If you give a wrong answer, the game will give you the correct solution.

How to Play the Teen Numbers Game
The game will show an equation to either compose or decompose a teen number. Fill in the blank to complete the equation.
Here’s how to play:

  1. Timed Option: Check the timer if you want to enable the 60 second timer. Click “Start Game”.
  2. Look at the Problem: You will be given a equation either in the form “10 + 7 = __” or “10 + __ = 18”. You need to fill in the blanks to complete the equation.
  3. Enter Your Answer: Enter in the number.
  4. Check Your Work: Click the Check button (or press the Enter key). The game will tell you if you’re correct. If you are wrong, you will be shown how to get the correct answer.
  5. Get a New Problem: Click the Next button for a new problem.
    Your score is tracked at the top, showing how many you’ve gotten right out of the total you’ve tried.
  6. Back to Menu Click “Back to Menu” to restart the game.

Place Value: A teen number is understood as a base ten structure—one group of ten plus the remaining ones.
Examples:
11 (Eleven): One ten and one one (10 + 1)
12 (Twelve): One ten and two ones (10 + 2)
13 (Thirteen): One ten and three ones (10 + 3)
14 (Fourteen): One ten and four ones (10 + 4)
15 (Fifteen): One ten and five ones (10 + 5)
16 (Sixteen): One ten and six ones (10 + 6)
17 (Seventeen): One ten and seven ones (10 + 7)
18 (Eighteen): One ten and eight ones (10 + 8)
19 (Nineteen): One ten and nine ones (10 + 9)
