How to subtract mixed numbers with like denominators & no regrouping?

Step 1: Subtract the fractions.
Check that the denominators of the fractions are the same.
Check that the numerator of the first fraction is ≥ to the numerator of the second fraction.
Since the fractions have the same denominator, subtract the numerators while keeping the denominator the same. Write the result as a new fraction with the common denominator.
Step 2: Subtract the whole numbers.
Step 3: Add the results from step 1 and step 2 to get the final answer.

For example:
5 6/7 - 2 4/7
Step 1: Subtract the fractions.
The fractions have the same denominator, which is 7.
Subtract the numerators: 6 - 4 = 2
6/7 - 4/7 = 2/7
Step 2: Subtract the whole numbers.
5 - 2 = 3
Step 3: The answer is then 3 2/7.
