Read Timetables Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Read Timetables Worksheet/Game. In this game, you need to learn how to read the bus timetable with two axes: Stations (rows) and Bus Runs (columns). The goal is to find the one specific “time cell” that matches your travel directive. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to play the Read Timetables Game
The Interface Layout
The Directive (Top Box): This is your mission. Read this carefully first; it tells you where you are starting, where you are going, and what “constraint” you have (e.g., an appointment time).
The Timetable:
Rows: Different stations along the route (ordered from top to bottom).
Columns: Different bus “Runs” (Run 01, Run 02, etc.). Each column represents a single bus moving from the first station to the last.
Streak: Tracks how many correct decisions you’ve made in a row.
Three Types of Missions
The game will rotate through three logic challenges:
A. Destination Analysis (Arrival)
The Task: “You board at [Station A] at [Time]. Find your arrival time at [Station B]."
How to Solve: Find the column that matches your boarding time, then follow that same column down to the row of your destination station.
B. Intercept Point (Departure)
The Task: “You arrive at the station at [Time]. Find the next available departure."
How to Solve: Look at the row for your starting station. Find the first time in that row that is after your arrival time. You can’t board a bus that has already left!
C. Backward Synchronization (Deadline)
The Task: “You have an appointment at [Station B] at [Time]. Find the latest departure from [Station A]."
How to Solve: Go to your destination station’s row. Find the latest time that is still before your appointment. Follow that column up to your starting station to find when you need to leave.
Rules of Engagement
Clicking: Once you identify the correct time on the table, click the cell.
Feedback:
Green/Success: The screen glows cyan, and you progress.
Red/Error: The screen shakes, your streak resets to 0, and the game highlights the correct cell so you can see where you went wrong.
The 60-Minute Wall: Note that the times are in HH:MM format. Pay close attention to the transition from, for example, 11:55 to 12:10.
Strategy: “Follow the Bus”
Remember that a single column represents one bus. If you board “Run 02,” you will stay in the “Run 02” column for your entire trip. Your eyes should mostly move vertically within a run or horizontally to compare different bus options.
