Place Value Games and Worksheets

To build a solid understanding of place value through online games/worksheets, the student need to transition from “counting items” to “counting groups.”

Grouping and “The Ten”
Students must understand that 10 individual units can be “clumped” into one single entity.
Counting by Tens: Visualize using bundles of sticks or ten-frames.
Units to Rods: Visualize 10 ones becoming 1 ten-rod.

The “Teen” Numbers (11–19)
These numbers may be difficult for beginners because their names (like “eleven”) don’t clearly describe their value.

Value of Digits: Give the value of a highlighted digit in a 2-digit number.

Simple Expanded Form
This is a bridge to mental math and addition.
Expansion (Breaking it Down): 45 = 40 + 5.
Composition (Building it Up): 80 + 2 = 82.

Three-Digit Numbers
Introducing the “Hundreds” place follows the same logic as tens.
Flats, Rods, Units: Visualize 10 ten-rods becoming 1 hundred-flat.
Hundreds, Tens, & Ones Places: Identify which digit is in hundreds, tens, or ones place.
Value of Digits Give the value of a highlighted digit in a 3-digit number.
Arrange Digits: Arrange three digits to get the smallest or largest number
