Number Tracing Game
Welcome to Number Tracing Game. This game is designed to help students learn how to write numbers from 0 to 20 by following a guide. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to play the Number Tracing Game
Getting Started
The Launch: Click the blue “START GAME” button. This initializes the drawing surface and activates the US English voice.
The Goal: A large, light-gray number (the “ghost guide”) appears in the center. The computer will say, “Trace the [number]."
How to Trace
On a Tablet/Phone: Use your finger or a stylus to draw directly over the gray lines.
On a Computer: Click and hold your mouse button to “paint” over the number.
Visual Feedback: As you draw, a thick blue line will appear. I’ve made this line chunky so it’s easier to cover the shape even if your hand shakes a little.
Checking Your Work
Once you feel you’ve covered the number well, click the yellow “Check!” button.
A green “GREAT JOB!” screen will pop up, and the computer will cheer for you.
Try Again: If you didn’t cover enough, the computer will say, “Try again! Cover all the gray.” You can either keep drawing or hit “Clear” to start that number over.
Moving Forward
Next Number: After a successful trace, you can click “CONTINUE” or the green “Next →” button at the top to move to the next numeral (0 through 20).
Reset: Use the “Clear” button at any time if you want to wipe the canvas clean and try the current number again.
Tips for Success
Stay inside the lines: The more of the gray area you cover under your blue paint, the better.
Listen: The game uses voice prompts to remind you which number you are currently practicing, which helps with number recognition.
