Metric Measurement Game
In this Metric Measurement Game, you are learning how to use a ruler to measure the length of different objects. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.
How to Play the Metric Measurement Game
Step 1: Choose Your Mode
When the game starts, you have two choices:
Measure to nearest cm: Easier. You only look at the big numbers (0, 1, 2, 3…).
Measure to nearest mm: Harder. You have to count the tiny little lines between the numbers.
Step 2: The “Drag and Align”
An object (like a Marker or Key) will appear on the screen.
Click and hold the yellow ruler to move it.
The Rule: Line up the “0” mark of the ruler exactly with the left edge of the object.
Don’t use the very edge of the yellow plastic. Use the first long line marked with a 0.
Step 3: Reading the Result
Look at where the right edge of the object ends.
If you are in cm Mode:
Simply look at the big number the object hits. If it stops at the 8, the answer is 8.
If you are in mm Mode:
You need to count the total number of tiny lines.
Shortcut: Every big number is 10 mm. So, if the object reaches the 4 and then goes 3 tiny lines further, your answer is 43 (40 + 3).
The medium-sized line between numbers is always the 5 mark.
Step 4: Check Your Answer
Tips
Keep it steady: If the ruler is crooked, your measurement will be wrong. Try to keep it level with the object.
Zero is Hero: Most mistakes happen because the ruler didn’t start at 0. Double-check that left side.
