How to solve linear equations (fractions)?

There are three sets of solving linear equations with fractions worksheets using eliminating denominator, distributive property & combining like terms.

• Solve linear equations (variables on one side, positive coefficients).
• Solve linear equations (variables on one side, negative coefficients).
• Solve linear equations (variables on both sides).
• Solve linear equations (two fractions).

You can follow these steps to solve a linear equation with fractions:

1. Determine the least common denominator (LCD) of the fractions.
2. Multiply all the terms of the equation by the LCD.
3. Now that you have eliminated the fractions, solve the equation like you would for any linear equation.
4. Use the distributive property and combine like terms, if applicable.

• Multiply each term inside the parentheses by the number or variable outside the parentheses.
• Combine the like terms that were created by the distribution.

5. Isolate the variable term. Perform inverse operations to move all other terms to the opposite side of the equation.
6. Simplify the equation further, if necessary, until you have the variable term isolated on one side of the equation.
7. Solve for the variable by performing the necessary operations to isolate it.
8. Check your solution by substituting the value you found back into the original equation and verifying that both sides are equal.
