High Frequency Words
High-frequency words are the words that appear most often in written and spoken language. They make up a large portion of the text that we read every day. Learning these words is crucial for new readers because it allows them to read more fluently and with greater comprehension. Many of these words do not follow regular phonetic rules, so they are often taught as “sight words” (words students should recognize instantly without decoding).
The following diagram shows 100 high frequency words that will be useful when learning English. Scroll down the page for more examples.

Decodable words can be read by using the letters sounds like ‘i’ and ’n’ makes ‘in.
Tricky words must be learned by memory because the letters make different sounds ‘i’ and ‘z’ makes ‘is’.
