Using Pythagoras Theorem
x2 + y2 = 62 ... (1)
(10 - x)2 + y2 = 82
100 - 20x + x2 + y2 = 82
100 – 20x + (x2 + y2) = 82
Substituting from equation (1)
100 - 20x + 62 = 82
20x = 72
x = 3.6
The answer is (1) 3.6
