Using Pythagoras Theorem
AB² = 6² + 8²
AB = 10

Given AD = x then DB = 10 - AD = 10 - x
Let CD = y

Using Pythagoras Theorem
x² + y² = 6² ... (1)

(10 - x)² + y² = 8²
100 - 20x + x² + y² = 8²
100 – 20x + (x² + y²) = 8²

Substituting from equation (1)
100 - 20x + 6² = 8²
20x = 72
x = 3.6

The answer is (1) 3.6
