Geometry is a foundational branch of mathematics focused on the study of spatial properties, including the shape, size, position, and dimensions of figures, as well as the properties of space itself.
Geometric Terms Game
The game tests your ability to link 30 different geometric definitions — ranging from basic points to complex 3D surface terms — to their correct names. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to Play the Geometric Terms Game
The Challenge Phase
A definition will appear in the center box in italics (e.g., “Two angles whose sum is 90°”).
Progress Bar: The indigo line at the bottom of the definition box shows how many of the 30 terms you have completed.
The Clock: While there is no visible timer, the game is designed for rapid recall to build “mental muscle memory."
The Selection Phase
Four buttons will appear in the grid. One is the correct term; the other three are “distractors” pulled randomly from the list.
Correct Match: The button turns green, you gain 100 points, and the feedback displays “Correct!”.
Incorrect Match: The button shakes and turns red. The feedback will tell you what the correct answer actually was so you can learn for next time.
Mastery Complete
Once you have cycled through all 30 terms, the game will display your final score. A perfect score is 3,000.
The Geometric Terms used in this game are:
Point: “A precise location in space represented by a dot. It has no length, width, or depth.
Line: “A straight path that extends infinitely in two opposite directions.
Ray: “A part of a line that starts at one endpoint and extends infinitely in one direction.
Line Segment: “A part of a line that is bounded by two distinct endpoints.
Midpoint: “The exact middle point of a line segment that divides it into two equal parts.
Collinear Points: “Points that all lie on the same single straight line.
Plane: “A flat, two-dimensional surface that extends infinitely in all directions.
Vertex: “The point where two or more line segments or rays meet.
Intersecting Lines: “Lines that cross at exactly one point.
Parallel Lines: “Lines that stay the same distance apart and never touch.
Perpendicular Lines: “Lines that intersect at right angles.
Acute Angle: “An angle measuring more than 0° but less than 90°.
Right Angle: “An angle that measures exactly 90°.
Obtuse Angle: “An angle that measures more than 90° but less than 180°.
Reflex Angle: “An angle that measures more than 180° but less than 360°.
Complementary Angles: “Two angles whose sum is 90°.
Supplementary Angles: “Two angles whose sum is 180°.
Vertical Angles: “A pair of opposite angles formed by intersecting lines, which are congruent.
Straight Angle: “An angle that measures exactly 180°.
Center: “The fixed point in the exact middle of the circle.
Radius: “The distance from the center to any point on the edge of the circle.
Diameter: “The distance across the circle through the center.
Circumference: “The total distance around the outside of the circle.
Edge: “The line segments that form the boundary of a shape.
Face: “The flat surface of a 3D shape.
Triangle: “A closed figure with three sides.
Circle: “A two-dimensional shape in which all points on the curved line are equidistant from a center point.
Quadrilateral: “A closed figure with four sides.
Perimeter: “The total length of all sides of a 2D shape added together.
Area: “The amount of space inside the boundary of a 2D shape, measured in square units.
