Fraction Plotter Game
Your goal in this game is to plot the given fraction on the number line. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the Fraction Plotter Game

  1. Analyze the Target
Once you click Initiate Protocol, look at the blue Target Container. It will display a fraction:
Denominator (Bottom Number): Tells you how many equal spaces the line between 0 and 1 is divided into.
Numerator (Top Number): Tells you how many of those spaces you need to travel.

  2. Prepare the Number Line
The game automatically divides the number line based on your denominator.
If the denominator is 5, you will see 4 small ticks between 0 and 1, creating 5 equal gaps.
Tip: Always count the spaces (the gaps), not the “sticks” (the ticks).

  3. Plot the Point
Use the Slider at the bottom to move the purple marker:
    Start at 0.
Move the slider one “click” for every step of the numerator.
For example, if the target is \(\frac{3}{5}\), move the slider until you have jumped across 3 gaps.

  4. Execute and Validate
Once the marker is in position, click Execute Plot.
Success: You’ll see a green “Successful Plot” message, and your score (e.g., 1/1) will update.
Error: If you are off-target, the game will tell you exactly which coordinate you accidentally landed on so you can adjust your counting for the next round.

  5. Review Your Stats
Sync Status: Shows your total correct over total attempts.
    Accuracy: Tracks your percentage.
Abort Sequence: Use this button at any time to return to the main menu and reset your session.

How to plot a fraction on the number line?
Step 1: Identify the “Whole”
Proper fractions will sit between 0 and 1. Think of the space between these two integers as one whole unit.

Step 2: Use the Denominator to “Chop”
The denominator (the bottom number) tells you how many equal parts the distance between 0 and 1 must be divided into.
If the denominator is 4, you divide the space into 4 equal segments.
To do this, you draw 3 tick marks between 0 and 1. (Always one less than the denominator).

Step 3: Use the Numerator to “Jump”
The numerator (the top number) tells you how many of those segments to count starting from zero.
If your fraction is \(\frac{3}{4}\), you start at 0 and take 3 jumps to the right.
The spot where you land after the third jump is exactly \(\frac{3}{4}\).

Tip:
The most common mistake is counting the ticks (the lines) instead of the gaps (the spaces). Do not count the tick mark at 0 as “one.” You only start counting after you have moved one space.

This video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to plotting fractions on the number line.
