How to factor perfect square quadratics?

There are three sets of factoring perfect square quadratics worksheets.

  • Factor Perfect Squares Quadratics.
  • Factor Perfect Squares Quadratics (GCF).
  • Factor Perfect Squares Quadratics (two variables)

A perfect square quadratic is a quadratic expression that can be factored into the square of a binomial. The general form of a perfect square quadratic is a² + 2ab + b², where a and b are any real numbers.

To factor a perfect square quadratic, you can follow these steps:

  1. Identify the perfect squares in the expression.
  2. Confirm that the middle term is twice the product of ab.
  3. Write the factored form as (a + b)².

Example: Factor the expression x² + 6x + 9

  1. Identify the perfect squares. In this case, the perfect squares are x² and 3².
  2. Confirm that the middle term is twice the product of ab: 6x = 2(3x).
  3. Write the factored form as (x + 3)².

However, not all quadratic expressions are perfect square quadratics. For example, the expression x² + 9x + 25 is not a perfect square quadratic because the middle term is not twice the product of ab.
