Fact Family within 20 Worksheets

A fact family consists of a set of related addition and subtraction facts that involve the same set of numbers. For example, in the fact family within 20, you’ll have a group of equations where the numbers are within the range of 0 to 20.

  1. A fact family consists of four related equations – two addition and two subtraction – using the same set of numbers.
  2. In a fact family, the numbers are related, and they appear in both addition and subtraction equations.
  3. Addition and subtraction are inverse operations. Knowing one fact allows you to find the related fact by using the inverse operation.
  4. Number bonds can be used to visually represent the fact family. Place the three numbers in a circle, connecting them with lines to show their relationships.

By practicing fact families within 20, students not only reinforce their addition and subtraction skills but also deepen their understanding of the relationships between numbers. This concept is foundational for building mathematical fluency and problem-solving skills.
