In mathematics, equal groups are collections of items where every single group has the exact same number of objects. This is the fundamental building block for both multiplication and division.

Equal Sharing with Remainder Game
Welcome to Cookie Critters! This game is a fun, hands-on way to master division with remainders. Your goal is to divide a pile of cookies equally among a group of hungry critters. If there aren’t enough cookies to give everyone another one, the extras go into the Leftover Jar.Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play the Equal Sharing with Remainder Game

  1. Read the Task
At the top of the screen, you’ll see your mission. For example:
“Divide 9 cookies among 2 critters."

  2. Drag and Drop
Feed the Critters: Click and drag a cookie from the jar at the bottom and drop it onto a critter.
Fair Share: You must ensure every critter has the exact same number of cookies.
The Remainder: If you have cookies left over that aren’t enough to give everyone one more, leave them in the Leftover Jar (the bottom area).

  3. Check Your Work
Once you think you’ve divided them correctly, click the CHECK button.

The Rules of “Leftover Logic”
To pass a level, you must meet three conditions:
Equality: Every critter has the same amount.
Total Count: No cookies are “lost”—they must be either with a critter or in the jar.
Maximized Division: The number of cookies in the Leftover Jar must be less than the number of critters. (If you have 3 critters and 3 cookies in the jar, you can still give them more)

Scoring and Math
When you succeed, the game will show you the math equation for what you just did:
Example: 9 ÷ 2 = 4 R1
Each successful round increases your score and moves you to a new challenge with different numbers.

Sharing Equally with Remainder
Sharing equally with a remainder is the mathematical way of saying, “Give everyone the same amount until you don’t have enough left to give everyone another round."

The Three Main Parts
When you share with a remainder, you are dealing with four specific numbers:
The Total (Dividend): What you start with (e.g., 11 cookies).
The Groups (Divisor): How many critters you are feeding (e.g., 3 critters).
The Share (Quotient): How many cookies each critter gets (the “equal” part).
The Leftover (Remainder): What stays in the jar because you can’t divide it fairly.

The Golden Rule of Remainders
The most important rule in “Leftover Logic” is:
The Remainder must always be smaller than the Divisor.
If you have 5 critters and your remainder is 6, you haven’t finished sharing yet! You can still give everyone one more cookie and leave a remainder of 1.

Why do we need remainders?
In real life, you often can’t split the item. You can’t easily split a marble, or a balloon. Remainders allow us to keep items whole while still being fair.

The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to learn how to share equally with remainder.
