Customary Mass Conversion Game
In this Customary Mass Conversion Game, students must need to convert between the three standard US Customary units of weight: Ounces (oz), Pounds (lb), and Tons (T). Scroll down for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the Customary Mass Conversion Game

  1. Choose Your Difficulty
At the top of the screen, you can toggle between two modes:
lb & oz (Standard): Focuses on everyday weights. Great for practicing multiplication and division by 16.
T, lb & oz (Pro): Adds Tons to the mix. This mode introduces much larger numbers (2,000) and more complex multi-step conversions.

  2. The Conversion Rules
The goal is to convert the Source Value (top) into the Target Unit (bottom).
Going from Big to Small (Multiply):
Tons to Pounds: Multiply by 2,000.
Pounds to Ounces: Multiply by 16.

Going from Small to Big (Divide):
Ounces to Pounds: Divide by 16.
Pounds to Tons: Divide by 2,000.

  1. Entering Your Answer
You can enter your answer in three different ways:
    Decimals: e.g., 0.5
    Fractions: e.g., 1/2
Mixed Numbers: e.g., 1 3/4 (make sure to include a space between the whole number and the fraction).

  2. The “Simplification” Challenge
To get full credit and move to the next round, your fractions must be in simplest form.
If the answer is 8 oz and you need to convert to lbs:
8/16 is mathematically correct, but the game will ask you to simplify it.
Divide both numbers by their Greatest Common Factor (8).
    Correct Simplified Answer: 1/2
