Convert Time Game
This Convert Time Game focuses on the relationship between time measurements (hours, minutes, seconds). Scroll down for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the Convert Time Game

  1. Pick Your Challenge
At the top, select one of the three game modes:
Hours ↔ Mins: Practice the 1:60 ratio.
Mins ↔ Secs: Focus on smaller time intervals.
    Master (H ↔ S): Remember that 1 hour = 3,600 seconds.

  2. Read the Conversion
Look at the Source Value (large number at the top) and the Target Unit (unit at the bottom).
Going Down (Large to Small): Multiply by 60.
Going Up (Small to Large): Divide by 60.

  3. Enter Your Answer
You can answer in two ways:
Decimal: For 30 minutes, you can type 0.5.
Fraction: For 30 minutes, you can type 1/2.
Mixed Number: For 90 minutes, you can type 1 1/2 (note the space).

Simplify Fractions
The game doesn’t just check if you’re right—it checks if you’re efficient.
If you convert 15 minutes to hours and type 15/60, the game will tell you:
“Correct, but simplify that fraction!"
To get the point and move to the next round, you must provide the simplest form. In this case, you’d need to type 1/4.

Quick Reference Table

Target Unit 15 Mins/Secs 20 Mins/Secs 30 Mins/Secs 45 Mins/Secs
Fraction 1/4 1/3 1/2 3/4
Decimal 0.25 0.33… 0.5 0.75

To master time conversion, you have to switch between the “Big-to-Small” (Multiply) and “Small-to-Large” (Divide). Since time uses a base of 60, your most important numbers are 60 and 3,600.

  1. Converting Large Units to Small (Multiplication)
When you move from a larger unit to a smaller one, the number gets bigger because there are many small units packed inside one large one.

Example A: Hours to Minutes
Problem: Convert 2.5 hours to minutes.
Rule: Multiply by 60 (1 hour = 60 minutes}).
Calculation: 2.5 × 60 = 150.
Result: 150 minutes.

Example B: Minutes to Seconds
Problem: Convert 1/4 of a minute to seconds.
Rule: Multiply by 60 (1 minute} = 60 seconds).
Calculation: 0.25 × 60 = 15.Result: 15 seconds.

  1. Converting Small Units to Large (Division)
When moving from a small unit to a larger one, you “group” the units together, so the resulting number is smaller.

Example C: Seconds to Minutes
Problem: Convert 90 seconds to minutes.
Rule: Divide by 60 (60 seconds = 1 minute).
Calculation: 90 ÷ 60 = 1.5.
Result: 1.5 minutes (or 1 1/2 minutes).

Example D: Minutes to Hours
Problem: Convert 20 minutes to hours.
Rule: Divide by 60 (60 minutes} = 1 hour).
Calculation: 20 ÷ 60 = 1/3.
Result: 1/3 of an hour (or approximately 0.33 hours).

  1. The “Master” Jump (Hours ↔ Seconds)
To skip the middle step (minutes), use the factor of 3,600 (60 × 60).

Example E: Hours to Seconds
Problem: How many seconds are in 2 hours?
Calculation: 2 × 3,600 = 7,200.
Result: 7,200 seconds.

Example F: Seconds to Hours
Problem: Convert 1,800 seconds to hours.
Calculation: 1,800 ÷ 3,600 = 0.5.
Result: 0.5 hours (or 1/2 an hour).

Quick Conversion Cheat Sheet

Target To Minutes To Seconds
1 Hour 60 3,600
1/2 Hour 30 1,800
1/4 Hour 15 900
1/10 Hour 6 360
