This Composite Volume Game/Worksheet is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Composite Volume Game
This game involves breaking a complex shape into simpler parts to find the total space it occupies. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.
How to Play the Composite Volume Game
The Objective
The goal is to calculate the Total Volume of the composite shape shown on the screen. The composite shape is just two or more rectangular prisms stuck together.
The Formula
To find the answer, you need to calculate the volume of each part separately and then add them together:
V_{total} = (L1 × W × H1) + (L2 × W × H2)
Identify the Parts
The game generates a shape made of two prisms:
The Base (Prism 1): Usually the larger, bottom block. Look for the labels L1 (Length), H1 (Height), and W (Width).
The Top (Prism 2): The smaller block sitting on top. Look for L2 (Length) and H2 (Height).
Note: Both prisms share the same Width (W).
Do the Math
Step 1: Calculate the volume of the bottom block (L1 × W × H1).
Step 2: Calculate the volume of the top block (L2 × W × H2).
Step 3: Add them up. This sum is your Total Volume.
Submit and Score
Type your final number into the Total Volume input box.
Click CHECK ANSWER.If you’re right, you’ll hear a chime and your score will increase.

Tips
Watch the Width: In this game, the W label applies to the depth of the entire object. It’s the “thickness” that both blocks share.
Mental Checklist: If you get a “Try again” message, double-check your multiplication first, then ensure you didn’t forget to add the two volumes together at the end.
Sound: Use the 🔊 button in the top right to mute the game.
