Adding Ten Worksheets

First Grade math worksheets to help students practice adding 10 to a single digit number.

Teaching addition of ten to a number is an essential concept in early math education. It’s often introduced in kindergarten or first grade.

  1. Introduce a number line. Mark the numbers at intervals of ten and demonstrate how to move forward by tens.
  2. Utilize visual aids such as charts or cards showing numbers and their corresponding ten more values. For instance, show 5 and its ten more as 15.
  3. Incorporate hands-on activities. Use counters, beads, or objects to physically represent the process of adding ten.
  4. Introduce number bonds to represent the relationship between a number and its ten more value. For example, for the number 8, the number bond could be 8 + 10 = 18.
  5. Teach mental math strategies, by recognizing the pattern: When we add 10 to single digit number, we can add 1 in front of the number.

10 + 0 = 10
10 + 1 = 11
10 + 2 = 12
10 + 3 = 13
10 + 4 = 14
10 + 5 = 15
10 + 6 = 16
10 + 7 = 17
10 + 8 = 18
10 + 9 = 19
