Long division for a 2-digit number is like following a recipe. You repeat the same four steps—Divide, Multiply, Subtract, and Bring Down — for each place value (Tens and Ones).

2-Digit Divide by 1-Digit Game
In Cookie Critters: Big Batch Division, you are the manager of a cookie factory. Your job is to take large batches of cookies (the dividend) and pack them into boxes of a specific size (the divisor). Scroll down the page for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the 2-Digit Divide by 1-Digit Game
To play successfully, you need to master the layout of Long Division.

  1. Understand the Layout
The game uses a standard long division bracket. It is designed to help you visualize Place Value.
The Divisor (Outside): The number of cookies that fit into one box.
The Dividend (Inside): The total number of cookies you have in the batch.
The Quotient (Top): This is where you type your answer. You must split your answer into Tens and Ones.
The Remainder (Bottom): Any “leftover” cookies that didn’t make a full box.

  2. Step-by-Step
    Step A: Divide the Tens
Look at the first digit (the Tens) of the batch. How many times does the divisor fit into it?
Example: If you have 87 cookies (8 tens) and the box size is 5. 5 fits into 8 exactly 1 time.
Type 1 in the Tens box.
    Step B: Divide the Ones
Now, consider the remaining value of the batch. You are finding the total number of times the divisor fits into the whole number.
Example: For 87 ÷ 5, the total boxes you can fill is 17.
Since you already put 1 in the Tens box, you put 7 in the Ones box.
    Step C: Calculate the Leftovers
Any cookies that couldn’t fill a final box go into the Remainder box at the bottom.
    Example: 17 × 5 = 85. Since you had 87 cookies, you have 2 leftovers.
Type 2 in the Remainder box.

  3. Why Alignment Matters
The game forces you to separate the Tens and Ones. This is because in real long division, keeping your columns straight will help to avoid math errors.
Rule: If your answer is a single digit (like 4), you must leave the 0 in the Tens box and a 4 in the Ones box to keep the numbers aligned.

  4. Tips for Mastery
Multiply to Check: Before hitting “Check Answer,” mentally multiply your answer by the divisor and add the remainder. It should equal the dividend! (17 × 5 + 2 = 87).
The Remainder Rule: Your remainder must always be smaller than your divisor. If your remainder is 6 but your box size is 5, you could have filled one more box.

The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to practice long division.
