Volume of Triangular Prism
The volume of a triangular prism is the amount of three-dimensional space it occupies. A triangular prism is a three-dimensional shape with two parallel and congruent triangular bases, and three rectangular faces connecting the corresponding sides of the bases.

The following diagram gives the volume of triangular prism formula. Scroll down the page for more examples and solutions on how to use the volume of triangular prism formula.

Formula for the Volume of a Triangular Prism
The general formula for the volume (V) of any prism is:
V = Area of the Base × height of the Prism

For a triangular prism, the “base” refers to the triangular face. So, the formula becomes:
V = (Area of the Triangle Base) × (height of the Prism)
V = (1/2 × base of triangle × height of triangle) × (height of the Prism)
V = 1/2bhl

Example
Problem:
A triangular prism has a base of 6 cm, a triangle height of 4 cm, and a prism length of 10 cm. Find its volume.
Solution:
Area of the triangle:
1/2 × 6 × 4 = 12 cm2
Volume of the prism:
12 cm2 × 10 cm = 120 cm3

Volume of a Triangular Prism
How to calculate the volume of a triangular prism using a simple formula?
The volume is equal to the product of the area of the base and the height of the prism.
The base is the area of a triangle - it could be a right triangle, an isosceles triangle, scalene triangle or an equilateral triangle.
You need to know how to calculate the area of an equilateral triangle and the area of a scalene triangle with 3 different sides using heron’s formula.
