  1. Vertical Lines
    Equation:
    The equation of a vertical line is always of the form:
    x=a
    where ‘a’ is a constant number.
    Characteristics:
    All points on a vertical line have the same x-coordinate.
    The y-coordinate can be any real number.
    The line is parallel to the y-axis.
    The slope of a vertical line is undefined.
    How to Graph:
    Locate the point on the x-axis where x=a.
    Draw a straight line that passes through this point and goes directly up and down (parallel to the y-axis).

  2. Horizontal Lines
    Equation:
    The equation of a horizontal line is always of the form:
    y=b
    where ‘b’ is a constant number.
    Characteristics:
    All points on a horizontal line have the same y-coordinate.
    The x-coordinate can be any real number.
    The line is parallel to the x-axis.
    The slope of a horizontal line is zero.
    How to Graph:
    Locate the point on the y-axis where y=b.
    Draw a straight line that passes through this point and goes directly left and right (parallel to the x-axis).

Equation of Vertical Line
Any line whose equation is in the form x = k, where k is a number, is a vertical line passing through (k, 0).

Equation of a Horizontal Line
Any line whose equation is in the form y = k, where k is a number, is a horizontal line passing through (0, k).
