A consonant blend is when two or more consonants are blended together, but each sound may be heard in the blend. Learn words with CL at the beginning or middle of words.
Learning the “cl” Blend
The “cl” blend is a consonant blend where the letters c and l combine to make a smooth sound. Both consonants retain their sounds:
/k/ from the letter c, and
/l/ from the letter l.
When blended, they produce the sound /kl/, as in the word “clap."
