Follow these steps to subtract mixed numbers:

Step 1: If there are unlike denominators, convert to common denominators

Step 2: Subtract the whole parts

Step 3: Subtract the fractions (borrow from the whole number if necessary) and simplify

Step 4: Subtract the whole number.

Step 5: Rewrite the fraction next to the whole number
