SAT Practice Test 5, Section 7: Questions 6 - 10

 

 

The following are worked solutions for the questions in the math sections of the SAT Practice Tests found in the Official SAT Study Guide.

 

 

It would be best that you go through the SAT practice test questions in the Study Guide first and then look at the worked solutions for the questions that you might need assistance in. Due to copyright issues, we are not able to reproduce the questions, but we hope that the worked solutions will be helpful.

 

 

6. Correct answer: (D)

Given:
Average of 6, 6, 12, 16 and x is equal to 12

To find:
The value of x

Solution:
Topic(s): Statistics


Answer: (D) 10

 

 

7. Correct answer: (C)

Given:
The figure

To find:
The value of z

Solution:
Topic(s): Sum of angles in a triangle


2y + 90 + 40 = 180 (sum of angles in a triangle)
⇒ 2y = 50 ⇒ y = 25

z + y + 90 = 180 (sum of angles in a triangle)
z + 25 + 90 = 180 ⇒ z = 65

Answer: (C) 65

 

 

8. Correct answer: (C)

Given:
If the selected number is odd then twice that integer is printed
If the selected number is even then the integer itself is printed
The integer printed is 26

To find:
Which could be the integer selected

Solution:
Test out each of the answers to find out which one(s) will print out 26

I. 13 is odd, print out 13 × 2 = 26
II. 26 is even, print out 26
III. 52 is even, print out 52

Answer: (C) I and II only

 

9. Correct answer: (A) 60m + s

To find:
The number of seconds in m minutes and s seconds

Solution:
m minutes = 60m seconds
m minutes and s seconds = 60m + s seconds

Answer: (A) 60m + s

 

10. Correct answer: (D)

Given:
(2x – 2)(2 – x) = 0,

To find:
Possible values of x

Solution:
(2x – 2)(2 – x) = 0
either (2x – 2) = 0 ⇒ 2x = 2 ⇒ x = 1
or (2 – x) = 0 ⇒x = 2

Answer: (D) 1 and 2 only
