Number Word Problems

 

 

 

Objective: I can solve whole number word problems.

 

Example:

At a football match, there were 11 820 spectators. 8 256 of the spectators were adults. Of the remaining spectators, there were 3 times as many teenagers as young children. How many teenagers were there?

Solve the following word problems.

A vendor started trading with 960 mangoes. At the end of the day he divided the remaining fruits exactly into 17 piles with 12 fruits in each pile. How many mangoes did he sell during the day?



A poultry farm produces 6 000 eggs in a week. They are packed into boxes with 50 eggs in each box. How many boxes are required to contain all the eggs produced in 6 weeks?



In each bag there are 32 red marbles and 26 blue marbles. How many marbles altogether are there in 9 bags?



384 strawberries were divided equally into 12 bunches. Jenny bought 3 bunches. How many strawberries did Jenny buy?



John collected 124 melons from his orchard. The melons were shared equally between himself and his 3 brothers. John then gives 6 melons from his share away. How many melons does John have left?



A Type C packet has 24 colour pencils and a Type E packet has 36 colour pencils. Eileen bought 6 of Type C and 5 of Type E packets for her art class. What is the total number of colour pencils that Eileen bought?



Ben had 22 boxes of noodles in his shop. Each box contains 18 packets of noodles. In the first month he sold 152 packets. In the second month, he sold 16 more packets than the first month. How many packets does he have left?
