GMAT Study Guides

Which GMAT Study Guide should I buy

We strongly recommend that you buy at least two books to prepare for the GMAT.

Firstly, you should get an official guide from GMAC. The book will contain actual questions from prior SAT exams. There is a significant difference between the official questions you will be asked on the exam and the practice questions contained in all other books. You need a GMAC publication to familiarize yourself with the quality of questions you will encounter on the GMAT.

Secondly, you should consider buying at least one of the "unofficial" guides reviewed below. Knowing the time-proven test-taking strategies would help to improve your score. The better unofficial guides contain many such strategies, as well as explanations and timesaving techniques to answer questions.

You will greatly increase your chances of receiving a higher test score if you prepare yourself with GMAT test-taking strategies and knowledge of actual questions from previous exams.

The Official GMAT Study Guide is made by the test makers - The GMAC - and so is the most accurate out of all the other GMAT prep books and includes real GMAT questions from previous tests. It also includes a free PowerPrep software that has two practice tests exactly similar to the GMAT in look and feel
The Official Guide to the GMAT Verbal Review is an excellent supplement to the Official GMAT Study Guide. It explains all the questions and answers and also explain why a particular answer is correct.
The Official Guide to the GMAT Quantitative Review is an excellent supplement to the Official. It is a tool for lots of practice. The questions are in order of difficulty and it gives you an idea of what the GMAT considers difficult versus the types of questions that are considered easy.

Cracking the GMAT includes over 200 practice questions and exclusive free access to practice exams and further review online. Detailed answers and explanations are given for every question.

Kaplan's GMAT Premier Program: 2007 Edition comes complete with a comprehensive review of all the material on the exam, and test-taking strategies to help maximize your score. It also provides additional online features to help you practice with even more GMAT questions.
