Using Pythagoras Theorem
AB2 = 62 + 82
AB = 10

Given AD = x then DB = 10 - AD = 10 - x
Let CD = y

Using Pythagoras Theorem
x2 + y2 = 62 ... (1)

(10 - x)2 + y2 = 82
100 - 20x + x2 + y2 = 82
100 – 20x + (x2 + y2) = 82

Substituting from equation (1)
100 - 20x + 62 = 82
20x = 72
x = 3.6

The answer is (1) 3.6
